Maya Moore Is Winning...On And Off The Court

September 15, 2015

The partnership between Beyond Meat and Maya Moore began over a love for food. From sweet potato pancakes in the morning, to finishing the day off with a big bowl of quinoa pasta topped with Beyond Beef Meatballs or Chicken Tenders; eating right and eating well is a major part of Maya's life.

In addition to winning in the kitchen, she's pretty adept at winning on the court. In her four-year career at the University of Connecticut, she was an AP All American each year, won 2 national titles, and lost a total of 4 GAMES! After entering the professional ranks, her winning hasn't tapered off either: 4 time All-Star, 2 time WNBA Champion, 2014 WNBA MVP, and member on Team USA's 2012 Gold Medal team.

When she's not cutting down nets she's putting them up with her series of kids camps held around the country. Along with talking finer points of the game, Maya loves to school her campers on the importance of proper nutrition. Like most young players, crushing a bag of M&M's in between tournament games was common practice. While the sugar rush provided a quick burst of energy, by 2nd half you've hit the wall. It wasn't until college that Maya began to make the transition to a cleaner diet, which is when she noticed her game start to elevate as well. She's been going beyond ever since.

Q&A WITH MAYA:

I love to move and compete. The beauty and thrill of breaking barriers on the court is amazing.

What is your biggest accomplishment in the sport (thus far)?

I am very honored to have been a part of teams that have won multiple championships in our leagues, but being a great teammate while competing in those championships is just as valuable if not more.

What makes you different from other athletes?

I am super competitive with myself about mastering the small details of being successful.

How does nutrition factor into your training?

Nutrition is huge! It helps me with recovery, endurance, injury prevention and consistency in my performance.

What are some reasons you've moved towards a plant-based diet?

I feel better, I can maintain an optimal playing weight, and I feel that I'm taking care of my body in a way that will pay off even after I'm done competing professionally.

What is your favorite Beyond Meat product/recipe?*

I love the Beastly Sliders with lots of toppings and I've just recently used the home style chicken tenders in my version of chicken Parmesan with angel hair pasta and dairy-free cheese!

My favorite Bible verse: "Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men," Colossians 3:23 HCSB
