Beyond Meat™ Expands Presence in China by Partnering with Leading Convenience Store Chain Lawson
Two plant-based lunch boxes – the Plant-based Spaghetti and the Plant-based Mixed Rice with Vegetables, will become available in more than 2,300 Lawson stores in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Anhui starting May 16
Shanghai, China – May 16, 2022 - Beyond Meat, Inc. (NASDAQ: BYND), a leading plant-based meat company, has announced a new partnership with Lawson, a leading convenience store chain. Together they will roll out two plant-based lunch box products, the Plant-based Spaghetti and the Plant-based Mixed Rice with Vegetables, across all Lawson stores in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui starting May 16. The launch marks the first partnership between Beyond Meat with a convenience store chain in China, making plant-based meat even more convenient for on-the-go consumers and accessible to millions of consumers in some of the most populated cities in Eastern China.
With more than 2,300 stores across Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui, Lawson will offer consumers two ready-made, convenient lunch boxes made with Beyond Meat’s delicious, nutritious, and sustainable plant-based meat. As the first international convenience store brand in the Eastern China market, Lawson remains one of the largest convenience store chains in the region and with this launch, offers working professionals, college students and urban trendsetters an easy and seamless way to enjoy plant-based protein options that are both better for them and the planet.
Lawson’s newly created plant-based Spaghetti dish features Beyond Pork™, Beyond Meat’s first plant-based meat created specifically for the Chinese market. Beyond Pork is a rich source of protein with 18.5g per 100g serving, and is made from simple, plant-based ingredients. Beyond Pork is designed to deliver the great taste, juiciness, and versatility similar to animal-based ground pork, and has 15.6g of fat per 100g serving, while the traditional pork has 30.1g of fat per 100g serving*.
The mixed rice dish features Beyond Beef™, a product designed to deliver the great taste, juiciness, and versatility similar to animal-based ground beef, and is a rich source of protein with 17g per 100g serving. Beyond Beef has 16.8g of fat per 100g serving, while the traditional chuck beef has 31.7g of fat per 100g serving**.
Beyond Beef and Beyond Pork are proudly produced in Beyond Meat's local manufacturing facility in the Jiaxing Economic and Technological Development Zone (JXEDZ), which enables the company to better serve Chinese customers and improve the efficiency and sustainability of its operations. The Plant-based Spaghetti and Plant-based Mixed Rice with Vegetables are priced at 14.9 yuan and 17.9 yuan, respectively, offering an accessible price point that enables even more consumers to incorporate plant-based meat into their everyday routines
Beyond Meat products are also available at such retailers as the City Shop and Sam's Club, as well as on China’s three major e-commerce platforms - JD.com, Tmall, and Pinduoduo. Beyond Meat has also launched high-profile food-service partnerships with Starbucks China, as well as with well-known names in China's dining scene, including Jindingxuan, and Slow Boat Brewery.
