________ is to Beyond Meat as presents are to Santa.
If you answered Earth Day, you’d be right. Here at Beyond Meat, we’re very into the environment. It’s the whole reason we created delicious products like the Beyond Burger in the first place. Some of you may be asking, what does Beyond Meat do that’s so great for the Earth? It turns out the food choices we make have a drastic impact on climate change.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out the peer-reviewed Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) we lead with The University of Michigan quantifying the environmental difference between the Beyond Burger and a beef burger, today is the day. Compared to the humble cow, the Beyond Burger produces 90 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than traditional beef.
But it gets better.
Concerned about water usage? The Beyond Burger uses 99 percent less water than beef. For perspective, the amount of water in an average swimming pool can only produce 312 beef burgers, while the Beyond Burger clocks in an impressive 60,837. What about land use? 93 percent less. One plot of land can produce 14 Beyond Burgers or just 1 beef burger. Energy? 50 percent less! You get the idea. But it’s not just burgers. In general, agricultural farming is resource intensive and we’re looking to change that by providing healthy, plant-based versions of beef, pork sausage and more.
No one’s asking anyone to give up meat for life, but it’s time we all consider our individual impact on this Earth. Small steps can have a really large imprint…in a good way! For example, Americans eat about 3 burgers each week, but if they switched just one of these beef burgers to a Beyond Burger for a year, it would be like taking 12 million cars off the road for an entire year.
